Hupper English Springer Spaniels

I have been breeding and training English Springer Spaniels
for over twenty   years. I have an eighty acre farm that I train   on, with a variety of covers, including Bush.

My Dogs are Field Bred Spaniels and are forty pounds, when full grown. All of my Pups come with CKC papers. My adult Dogs all run in Open All Age Stakes. I have trained Three Field Trial Champions, since I started with Spaniels.

Training tip   #4   of   7         Standard Spaniel commands with be in   Quotations.

Field retrieves are going to be time consuming for you, but it is the be all and the end all of hunting and field trialing. How quickely you dog goes out to get the retrieve and how quickely he brings the retrieve back to "Hand".

Your dog is "off the lead", "Hup" him ten feet in front of you. With the wave of your hand "Cast" the dog off to your left. Call the dogs name and wave your hand to the left, saying "hi on". This is called "Quartering" let your dog go from side to side. When he is running to the left, throw your "canvas dummy" to your right, about ten feet from you. Get the dog to turn and let him be, you will see he will start to get excited , when he smells the Dummy. Let him pick it up and Blow three blasts on your whistle and call " heal in". get your dog to "hup" in front of you, lower your hand and take the dummy...Good dog Good dog. A pat on the head or a rub of the ears, will not hurt your dog. This is going to be repeated a lot of times and I will give you more information on "Quartering" as we progress, and we will talk about the Wind Direction.

Have Fun with your dog!
