You can still teach an OLD Dog new tricks; You just have to be smarter then the OLD Dog.

Training Lesson No. Six

Quartering Advanced With Dead Pigeons

This will; and ALL of your dog training, require two helpers, one on your left side and the other on your right side. They should be about thirty feet away from you. You have your dog in front of you "hupped" off the lead ready to "cast him off" you should be off to the side, down wind, the direction you are going to "Cast" your dog to.

Each partner on either side of you should have a dead bird. This time when you "Cast" your dog off, you should be aware of the wind direction. Always "Cast" your dog down wind so he "cleans" the field for you as you advance up the field.

When your dog is running toward one of your partners; you shoot the Starter pistol, your dog should "HUP" to the shot. have your partner throw the bird Bird in toward the field, so your dog sees it, you will see your dog Perk up.
Send him on his NAME.  Let your dog retrieve it and "Heal" him into you, good dog and "Hup" him and take the Bird from him. Now "Cast" him off towards the other partner and re-pete the same as you did on the other side. keep doing this as you advance up the field with you dog.

Summer is here and you should be carrying a water bottle in your back pocket; to give your dog water when he returns with the retrieve. If there are feathers in his mouth, take them out then give him water

This  Lesson we will be using a canvas dummy or a dead pigeon  for your dog to find. If you can get a pigeon or two. This will get your dog to use his nose to find the Pigeon or dummy.

The LAST lesson, we will be using live pigeons, so if you can get three or four it will be great for your dog's training. You will go through a LOT of pigeons training your dog. I will be teaching you how to "dizzy" pigeons for the dog to field in the Field.
